It’s just words on a page. A short online record of thoughts, dreams, feelings or your favorite cupcake recipe. Whether you’re a serious blogger or just a casual online scribbler, it’s an oasis of privacy in the most public of mediums.

To share or not to share is often your question. Is the time I got caught sleep-walking naked in New York okay to lay down on paper? Or is it something more serious? A stigma or a social issue that haunts you and you feel no-one will ever understand? Do you lay it bare or keep it in? So many questions each time your digits hit the “qwerty”.

Should you show yourself à la open or honest or should you be represented via an electronic icon or meme… Say a pink typewriter? Can you have a public blog and a private persona so that you’re not sacked when you slag off your colleagues when they get on your nerves?

Then there’s the validation, when it goes well. People have read me and even better they have something to say about it. Oh Goody! And when it doesn’t “why does nobody like me?” , “What did I do?”, “Where did you all GO!” and “Why aren’t you all sat by your laptops waiting for my ramblings?”.

Whether you’re a journaller, a shutter-bug, a frustrated writer waiting for their big book deal (HELLO, HELLO, HELLO), a sometime chef or an enthusiastic amateur. It’s all here for you. An oasis for those thoughts, pictures, recipes, poems and life. What’s more, we’ll all be here, reading, nodding, loving, hating, ignoring, following, liking and commenting.

Welcome to the BLOG. Come on in, the waters lovely.

The GAP – Are you playing at this?

Mind The Gap!

Mind The Gap! (Photo credit: BuhSnarf)

It’s been a while… Sigh.

In fact it’s been about six months or is it more? I forget, even though this blog calls to me at the strangest moments to pick up my little netbook and jot a few thoughts down. I’d reached the saturation point I think, before.

Before, I decided that everyone has done it better and more succinctly elsewhere. Other writers with words more clever and funnier than mine. What do I have to offer except repackaged duller versions of other writers words.

And yet, it still calls to me. This little spot, my unadulterated stream of consciousness. I still think in the middle of the night of the small things I could say in my way. I’d hoped for further forward and feeling brighter and yet there it is in the stats, a big fat huge six month gap and I can’t take it back.

But pausing doesn’t have to mean failing and my words are here on the page.. I am going on. It’s just a little gap….

I hope you will welcome me back and now that I think about it – I never really left. I was just waiting for a space to slide myself into.

A gap.

Hello! I’ve missed you all so much.

I have been sadly behind in my acceptance of awards lately, so apologies. I am very nervous about these awards as there tends to be a divided opinion on their validity. A lot of people say they are no better than chain letters, however, I was happy to receive the awards but as usual I am not sticking to the rules!

I want the people who I award these to, to know that I really do rate their blogs and they’re nominated for their quality and content (and not just running out of other people to nominate). I am going to nominate one blog for each award! I will also not write the seven things about me but I will leave you with a thought for the day! For my nominee’s, if you want to stick to the original rules… (seven things people will find interesting or don’t know and seven nominees).

I will also thank the people who nominated me… (You are really very kind)

Sisterhood Award:

Thank you to Liza at for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. In her own words – I am the leading character in this show….  She writes a great blog, please go see.

My nominee is –  – LittleTash, writes from the heart about writing, baking, weddings and other things. Go say Hi!

Reader Appreciation

Thank you to for nominating me for the Reader Appreciation Award. You really are very kind and I was in some great company for that award. Jemonje writes that her world is “Mostly words. And a world. My world.” – Go check her out.

My nominee is – – Tamara, writes about writing but often raises questions that I enjoy thinking about answering. I love Blogs that make me think and Tamara always does. Go see her!

Beautiful Blogger

Thank you to Daniela of the  for nominating me for The Beautiful Blogger award. What can I say about Daniela, mmm, nothing that hasn’t been said already, go check out her blog (It’s like the Oscars over there, she has so many awards and all deserved.)

My nominee is – at Charron’s Chatter. Her blog is a bit of everything from Limericks to “Paying it Forward” for some amazing charities that she posts about. I have often been surprised, delighted and amused when visiting. I have never been bored! GO SEE HER NOW!

Thought for the Day!

Why do we always blame the last drink of the evening for our hangovers, when it was just as likely the first?

Mondays Wednesdays Fridays

Mondays Wednesdays Fridays (Photo credit: vasta)

This past week has been great fun. I’ve got Facebook to work. I’ve posted stuff on lots of different topics. And even if you haven’t enjoyed any of it, the fairly prolific nature has been good for me as a writer.

However, I go back to my day job tomorrow in the corporate asylum. If I am to continue with my WIP and meet my first draft goal – something has to give.

So, I have come up with a plan! I will still be checking in and replying to comments on a regular basis but I will be posting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. This gives me, the ability to still post and try to fit in my other writing as well.   All bets are off at weekends, I may post if I get inspired by something, I may not…..

The posts are fairly random though. I never wanted this blog to get pigeon-holed, so you may get humor one day and a rant about the creative struggle with writing the next. You may even get more poetry. Oh and as I have upgraded, I am toying with the idea of using video occasionally, to emphasize a point. I think I prefer the words to stand on their own though. So don’t count on this!

I will be using you as a “treat” for achieving word goals in my writing projects! You are now my emotional blackmail for my psyche (Yes, I know how cracked this sounds but whatever works right?)

So thanks, for reading, commenting and generally joining in where appropriate. You guys ROCK!

Opinion is divided on the “Awards” issue. I remember as a start-up blogger seeing these beautiful little graphics proudly displayed on people’s blogs and thinking wow, I hope someone sees enough merit in my little corner of blog land to nominate me one day.

Some say the awards are chain letters and don’t as a rule accept them and that’s absolutely fine. However, I think the awards are lovely and have always thanked those that felt that I am worthy of them (whether they only nominated me as they’d run out of other bloggers to nominate is not the point. It’s a nice thought.)

Yesterday, I came across a post about a New Award that someone had invented called the “Delusional” blogger award. Now don’t get me wrong, I totally agreed that the blog they awarded (by posting it in the comments section) was frankly abhorrent. There is however, a bigger question here – Where does it stop?

Taken from the comments in the post without permission.

My Comment:-

I’m sorta pleased you did this and sorta worried. Yes, I think the Blog in question totally deserves this award. But where does it stop? Does it end up with the cool bloggers and the not cool bloggers? Anyone put in the not cool group gets this award? Just saying… For example the lady above doesn’t HAVE to read the poop blog, that’s the great thing about blogging.

The response:-

“It stops wherever it needs to. I heap praise upon those who deserve it and I reserve the right to express my disdain for others.”

Is it just me or does anyone else think. ASSHOLE (or ARSEHOLE if you’re British). You see I believe powerfully in the freedom of speech and the right to believe in whatever the hell you want to. So this Blogger heaps praise on those who deserve it and reserves the right to express disdain for others? Who made him lord and master of the blogosphere?

Do we start awarding the “Bad Grammar Award” for blogs with dangling participles (whatever the hell that means)? Does it end up like school again?

Hey, I am so cool that I reserve the right to talk down to you like a patronising idiot, because you don’t believe in the same things as me and your blog doesn’t meet my lofty criteria?

Do you know what, if you don’t like a blog then don’t follow it, read it or interact with it. You could even try blogging about why the views espoused by that blog are wrong (in your opinion); you know get all intellectual and intelligent on them. That is the right you have, awarding the blog you don’t like with a nasty award – that just makes you a troll my friend.

Green Devils

THERE ARE TROLLS – Be careful out there!

I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank anyone who follows me for hanging in there over the last two months and rest assured that my blog will start to have a sense of maturity and seriousness with this new milestone that has been sadly lacking thus far.

Or there again, maybe not. Me and my blog are quite enjoying having fun and sploshing around in the murky puddles of my mind with our Wellies on (galoshes for anyone outside the UK)..

I had a “Duvet Day” yesterday with the husband and it was bliss. I now have a full week off with no distractions to write a minimum of a blog a day, continue with the book and sort out the style and menus of this blog! – I have also gone Pro. Yes, I treated myself to the Upgrades bundle here on WordPress and I’ve got my very own .COM. So expect to see changes over the next week, along with it reverting back to exactly the same style it started with, when I figure out that actually, I liked it just the way it was.

I am also going to be looking into the mysterious world of the “Plug In” and may even attempt some CSS. Err, so if you visit and get nothing but a blank page, it will probably be all my fault.

Expect to see posts about several strange quirks that go on in the IWTWI household over the coming days. Including and not limited to another post about the bed-linen (Nothing kinky I promise, not a IWTWI, very own shades style expose).

There will be Posts about writing this week, including whether I am going to sign up for NaNo (National Novel Writers Month) in November. I can’t help but giggle a bit when I write Na No. I think of NaNu, NaNu from Mork & Mindy. I’ve just lost anyone under the age of twenty-five haven’t I?

I will actually have a couple of serious posts thrown in for good measure…. There are a couple of things I have wanted to write about that every time I’ve sat down to do, I’ve frozen up – So I’m hoping for an emotional thaw!So last but not least a big thank you to all the regular commentators and dare I say electronic friends I’ve made thus far.

Sorry all, I am a bit over excited this week (think new puppy and favourite toy), comments as always welcome.

The lovely Howard,  sent this to me. Because his blog is so wonderful, I felt that I would be doing him an injustice if I didn’t at least say thank you and answer the questions.

Hey, I’m also super-competitive (not my finest character trait) so getting an award is awesome!

So, as stated by the rules. I am supposed to post seven interesting things about myself. Then award other bloggers who I feel deserve this honor.

So, here are some factoids about me…

1) I have been homeless and lived in a shelter for three months.

2) I have been just about everywhere except Australasia

3) I once got the Australian cricket team so drunk on a night out in Johannesburg that they lost to South Africa the next day

4) I can surf, scuba dive and sail…

4) I love to sing but sound like next doors cat – NO SERIOUSLY…

5) I didn’t believe in love at first sight or marriage until I met my husband…

6) My favourite place in the world is the Maldives…

7) My favourite saying is:- “If you can’t be good be careful, if you can’t be careful don’t get caught and if you get caught – Don’t blame me!”

So last but not least, some nice nominations. Now I don’t follow that many Blogs, although I read a lot regularly – maybe fifteen tops? So, nominating is hard yet easy at the same time. I believe in quality not quantity.

So I am only nominating two for this award:- – In Pickles own words below – Plus she’s got talent!

My name is Miss Pickles (I’m 12 years old) and this blog is for publishing my stories to the General World. I love writing and have aspirations to become an author, so I’d love some advice from any actual writers to improve my writing.I’ve known for about five years that I want to be a writer of some sort, though at one point I wanted to be an archaeologist,  and I’ve written lots of assorted bits and bobs.

My next one doesn’t need a nomination – She’s just been Freshly Pressed. However, I was so glad to see that she was still around I simply have to nominate her!

Daniela of the Lantern Press.
